A life-story is in essence the expression of a person's self-understanding—"there is no stronger, clearer statement of how the person sees and understands his or her own life than his or her narrative of it" (Atkinson 1998:65)—it promotes personal insight. From the personal, subjective and experiential emerge meaning. Life stories convey the wisdom of lived experiences.
