- Basic background knowledge of the subject matter / discipline / field of study
- Prior academic performance impacts on a student’s performance
- Degree of exposure to contemporary educational technologies — the use of computer-based learning is enabled if students already acquired PC usage skills
- The impact of the learning styles of students have been extensively researched
