The term 'learning through service' (LTS) has been added to the lexicon of ways to describe pedagogical methods which infuse academic learning with service rendering say Swan, Paterson and Bielefeldt (2014, 357).
In their view, the overarching 'umbrella' term' community engagement' (CE) includes a variety of educational models, for example service-learning, community service-learning, problem-based learning and project-based learning.
