The November 2014 Ministerial Statement on University Funding in South Africa (Department of Higher Education and Training, 2014a: 6) specifies that the calculation of actual teaching input excludes experiential learning, or work-integrated learning.
The Report of the Ministerial Committee for the Review of the Funding of Universities, differentiated among others clinical training (§7.4, p. 33; §7.5, p. 266) for health professionals; veterinary sciences (§7.5, p. 33; §7.6, p. 269); and teaching practice for pedagogy (§7.4, p. 256). The Ministerial Statement on University Funding affirms this differentiation in Section C (pp. 12-23), which focuses on budgetary provision for specific universities in earmarked fund categories for 2015/16 and 2016/17. Earmarked veterinary sciences grant (§6, p. 20) and clinical training grant (§ 7, pp. 20-21). It is considered important to point out that only certain programmes are eligible for clinical training funding.
