Having made a thorough study of the origins of cooperative education, internationally renamed work-integrated learning, I maintain that the key factor remains collaboration between the industry for which education is done and the institutions concerned.
Educational institutions cannot develop relevant curriculums without ongoing consultation. It cannot be a once off exercise, especially not in a rapidly changing world.
Teaching methods, especially the application of theory and the gaining of relevant experience, must fit the circumstances. Covid prompted a variety of forms of non-placement, online learning, e-learning, simulations, and virtual learning. Quality assurance of the chosen teaching method/s furthermore plays a significant role.
